Well done, great cover! This song has a lot of width and sounds pretty clean overall. I especially enjoyed the quiete, distorted parts (intro & around 01:40).

Subjective criticism: A bit more bass would have been nice (it only came from the kick), and when played on high volume (with monitors), some of the highs sound a bit piercing.

Keep up the good work!

SourJovis responds:

Thanks. Yeah the far low is all from the heavy kick (there are two kicks in total). There is some normal low from the synth and slap basses, but because the heavy kick is side-chained, they're less loud on the beat. This song has a lot of treble. Overall the high and the lows are equally high, so it's a wall of sound, where most dance songs have more focus on the lows. Most of the peaks are in the higher ends. Tried to compress the tracks responsible for that, but only so much so they would still sound good.

Apparently I am a quite inspirational person lately. Geil.

That's what you get for being a sexy bitch :3

I see what you did there, Captain Troll.

;D

DESHIEL responds:

I'm taking over the chipstep industry! ;D

This has the piraty mood you aimed for, well done. ;D

.. now for some hopefully constructive criticism:
Even though the song is only 1:40, you could have added some variation to the drums.
A snare or some other higher pitched percussion would be nice in addition to the kick.
The bass sounds like a bad emulation of a real bass. Either look out for some good soundfonts, a better plugin or aim for a more electronic approach. It also always helps to change the velocity of the notes a bit and slightly change their length and position. Just a little, with "snap to grid" turned off. This makes it sound more human as no one is capable of playing the same notes with exactly the same rhythm & velocity all the time.

Overall, this would fit perfectly into any game and movie with pirates in it. And every good game or movie should have pirates in it, right? ;D

i understand what ur saying!!!! :)
i was actually going for the hole cheesy bass (though iwas using a VST plugin) as i also lowered its bass in the EQ to compensate for the kick.
I do make a lot of piano and classical compositions so i know what u man about the hunization on the notes but this was a cheesy techno song so everythings gotta be in sync.
but i will admit the drums could of definately been varied more :D
thanks for the review!!!! :)

Finally some decent, legit darkchip. The darkchip scene is full of tools nowadays, I can't stand their melodic crap. They play shitty melodies, then add some distortion to the kick and think their stuff would be ohh-so-hard darkchip. Also increasing the bpm does not automatically make a track harder, but apparently the kids want it. You did everything right. This is the real darkchip sound,. this was how it sounded like on raves in the early 90s before our subculture got invaded.

Pleas never sign to a major label, keep producing this and stay real! Mad props from Germany mate! Will visit your next gig for sure & bring you some Waldhimbeergeist.

5/5

AliceMako responds:

Yeah what is up with those douchebags lately, showing up in leggings and trucker caps?

Waltzing in with an attitude like "i'll show you how it's done kk" and then play this hyper hyper zelda on steroids shaite whilst on stage and then wonder why only their mates were dancing cus their coke dealer told 'em they are totally the bomb just minutes ago.

Worst thing is neophytes hear them and then start asking for that kind of sound, oblivious that it's just more brochipstep or worse yet, plain techno that they want.

Illuminati can't have my soul, i ain't signing nothing, no way, no how.

Allso waldhimbeergeist with pantsless man <3

I dropped my pants while listening to it. It's arosuing, I rated 5 stars. Does belong in goth.

Most people on this page are simply too young to appreciate this stuff. Back then, all we had was a C64 / Atari and a ghettoblaster. There was no FL studio, there was no NI massive. Only good music, raves and candy canes.

AliceMako responds:

God wills it!

Nice!

The guitars sound quite good! It's always very hard for me to achieve that.

The drums could have needed a bit more presence (especially the kick) and variation. The guitar solo was slightly out of time, but that happens. :)

You produce a broad variety of styles - Keep up the good work!

DivoFST responds:

Wow i thought this song was lost in obscurity forever xD
I was very noob at mixing at the time (actually im still not good but trust me i was worse xD) so i didn't pay enough attention to details or drums or anything much i have to be honest xD.
One of my major problems is that i love to improvise but i am too lazy to redo a decent take so these mistakes get sucked in a lot of my songs.
I try to produce as much genres as i can to better myself :D
Thanks a lot for the comments Wandschrank!!

"Tastatur Extremistischen" means "Keyboard Extremist", but the grammar is very wrong. You would say "Extreme Tastatur" for "Extreme Keyboard", "Tastaturextremist" for "Keyboardextremist" or "Extremistische Tastatur" for "extremist keyboard". Which sounds very stupid in German, but also funny. Just like my username. ;D

Nice glitchy tune, sounds like chiptune rock!

Pitfall responds:

OVER 9000 BONUS POINTS!!!

Also, yeah my dumb friend that told me he was German, but then I found out he wasn't, evidently he just used Google translate to gimme the title. :/ So yeah lol

Awesome! Finally some noisy drums in a chipstep song on NG. :)

My only critique: The lower frequencies are a bit too distorted for my taste, so the whole song sounds quite bassy, but the lower frequencies are quite.. undefined / muddy.

Just my personal taste, though, still a 5/5! Keep up the great work!

Pitfall responds:

Right on, man! Thanks for the feedback, and I appreciate your commenting even though like you said it's not really your ideal in personal taste.

:D

Fitting song name! :)

Here some hopefully helpful advice:
The biggest flaw is in my opinion the mixing / mastering. The song sounds a bit dull / muffled overall and it lacks some loudness. Good studio headphones / speakers help a lot, but imho it is even more helpful to simply compare the song to some other artist's stuff you like. I made a lot of tracks which sounded good to me, especially after workin on them for hours and listening to nothing else during that time. When compared to other tracks, though, I suddenly noticed they lacked a lot of heights or the bass sounded very muddy. So if you don't already do this when mixing & mastering your tracks, give it a try! Although I am not a huge fan of too much compression: To give this song some more power, you should add some. Or even a lot, it's a dance song after all. ;D

Keep up the good work!
